A wedding at MyMoon

Williamsburg, Brooklyn

By Pete · · 3 min read

I’ve DJed a lot of weddings over the years, and I always appreciate when couples aren’t afraid to do things their own way. Miriam and Sarah did exactly that.

Their wedding at MyMoon in Williamsburg brought together meaningful Jewish traditions, their closest family and friends, and a dance floor that stayed packed throughout the night.

TRADITION, ON THEIR TERMS

One thing I really appreciated about Miriam and Sarah’s wedding was how personal everything felt.

They kept the traditions that were meaningful to them and changed the ones that didn’t quite fit. They walked down the aisle together, included family and friends in their ceremony, and put their own spin on several Jewish customs.

The ceremony music was all strings. The wedding party walked in to “Merry-Go-Round of Life” from Howl’s Moving Castle by Vitamin String Quartet, and then Miriam and Sarah walked down the aisle together to “Concerning Hobbits” by Aramis String Quartet.

MyMoon was a great setting for it, too. Between the exposed brick, the greenery and the candlelight, the room already felt warm and intimate, and it didn’t need much else.

THE MUSIC AND THE DANCE FLOOR

Sarah was the music person in the relationship and took the lead on choosing the DJ. I always enjoy working with couples who genuinely care about music because there’s a lot we can do when we get into their tastes and the kind of party they want.

For me, it’s about finding that balance between what the couple loves and what gets everyone else moving. I’m not interested in running through the same wedding playlist every weekend.

I want the music to make sense for the people in the room.

And that’s exactly what happened at Miriam and Sarah’s wedding.

The energy was great. Miriam and Sarah went up on chairs for the hora, and right after it I went into “Dancing Queen.” Some of the other highlights of the night were “Pink Pony Club,” “Dancing On My Own” and “I Love It.” The crowd was clearly there to celebrate.

One of the things I love most about DJing is being able to bring different people together through music. When you’re paying attention to the room and making the right selections, the dancing takes care of itself.

WHAT MIRIAM & SARAH HAD TO SAY

An Excellent DJ!!

Our dance floor was full the entire night—enough said. DJ Peter Piper read the room perfectly and kept the bangers coming nonstop. Multiple guests asked us where we found him and if they could get a copy of our playlist!

If you hire him, you won’t regret it for a second. He’s incredibly friendly, easy to work with, and has excellent taste in music. Pete went above and beyond to craft an epic playlist that our guests are still talking about. He truly made our celebration unforgettable.

ENDING THE NIGHT TOGETHER

One of the nicest details from their celebration was how the night ended.

They had an unplanned final dance to Al Green’s “Let’s Stay Together,” with everyone gathered around them.

I think that’s a pretty great way to wrap up a wedding.

It was a pleasure being part of their celebration, and seeing their wedding featured in Dancing With Her was awesome.

You can read more about their story and the traditions they included in the full wedding feature.
